Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the dad or mum within the leg.

The college had early launch and students had been released at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In response to police, the mother or father, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His damage was not serious.

The school district stated White was inside the building, close to the foyer space, and not within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and college officials said there was no threat made and the mother or father did not have "malicious intent."

No students or workers have been injured. The mum or dad was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

In the two days because the Uvalde mass faculty shooting, there have been 5 cases in North Texas associated to guns introduced to varsities or threats made.

Arlington parents mentioned their minds instantly thought of the worst once they had been notified.

No mother or father ever wants there to be a reason for them to get a text message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not help however suppose the worst when they do.

"Once I obtained the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to occur.’ I used to be shocked," dad or mum Karima Rasheed mentioned.

Rasheed said Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his school.

"If one thing happened, you’ve received to run wherever that’s safe and hide," she told her youngster.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is too contemporary to talk politics, Mitchell stated one thing must be carried out now. 

"They want to talk about it, they wish to campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, but they don’t need to actually go any laws and do something," he added.
