Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech giant mentioned its iconic music participant has been replaced by different units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, mentioned: "At present, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've integrated an unimaginable music experience across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with help for spatial audio - there's no better technique to take pleasure in, discover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the primary MP3 participant that could hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new class of digital music participant that lets you put your whole music assortment in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he said at the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same again."

Comparable MP3 gamers launched by Microsoft and Sony didn't have the same success as the iPod.

Apple has released five versions of its music participant - the Basic, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod vary in recent years, with mobile phone know-how enabling prospects to take heed to music providers on their telephones.
