Mother or father with concealed weapon by accident shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mum or dad in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a concealed weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the father or mother within the leg.

The college had early launch and college students were launched on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the parent, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by chance shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The varsity district said White was contained in the constructing, close to the lobby space, and not in the hallway near college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers stated there was no menace made and the dad or mum didn't have "malicious intent."

No college students or employees have been injured. The mother or father was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days for the reason that Uvalde mass faculty taking pictures, there have been 5 circumstances in North Texas associated to weapons introduced to varsities or threats made.

Arlington parents mentioned their minds instantly considered the worst after they were notified.

No father or mother ever wants there to be a motive for them to get a text message saying their kid's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not help however suppose the worst once they do.

"Once I obtained the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to happen.’ I was shocked," parent Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most times, lockdowns are only drills college students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that figuring out what happened earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I started seeing my classmates starting to cry and our teacher got a notification on their cellphone saying somebody was in the constructing," he stated.

Weapons aren't allowed on school property, and oldsters FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They have to go to highschool, and obviously, statistically, it is unlikely to happen, however you by no means need to be the one statistic. What if it's your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives throughout the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington faculty and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a college taking pictures, my heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed said Thursday was the graduation day for sixth grade students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to highschool in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever occurred at his college.

"If something occurred, you’ve received to run wherever that’s safe and conceal," she advised her baby.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is just too recent to speak politics, Mitchell said one thing must be accomplished now. 

"They wish to discuss it, they want to campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t need to really pass any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
