ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a concealed weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the dad or mum within the leg.

The college had early release and college students were launched at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the mum or dad, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His harm was not critical.

The varsity district mentioned White was inside the constructing, close to the lobby space, and not within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and college officers said there was no risk made and the guardian didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or employees have been injured. The mum or dad was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Arlington parents mentioned their minds instantly thought of the worst when they have been notified.

Rasheed said Thursday was the graduation day for sixth grade students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his school.

"If something happened, you’ve obtained to run anyplace that’s safe and hide," she instructed her child.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is too recent to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing must be done now. 

"They want to talk about it, they want to campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t want to truly cross any laws and do something," he added.
