Speaking within the dugout of the Nice American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler mentioned, "I do not plan on popping out for the anthem going ahead till I really feel higher concerning the path of our nation."

In a blog post, Kapler questioned whether the country's leadership is dedicated to representing its people's greatest interests and whether or not the USA is actually "the land of the free and the home of the brave."

"We weren't given bravery, and we aren't free. The police on the scene put a mom in handcuffs as she begged them to go in and save her kids. They blocked dad and mom trying to prepare to charge in to stop the shooter, including a father who learned his daughter was murdered whereas he argued with the cops. We aren't free when politicians decide that the lobbyist and gun industries are more necessary than our kids's freedom to go to school without needing bulletproof backpacks and lively shooter drills," Kapler wrote.

Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he referred to as "the dearth of supply of the promise of what our national anthem represents."

"I'm not okay with the state of this country. I want I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I might have demonstrated what I realized from my dad, that once you're dissatisfied with your country, you let or not it's identified through protest. The home of the brave should encourage this."

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made an impassioned plea to take stronger action towards gun violence in the US.

Kerr refused to talk about basketball forward of Recreation 4 of the Warriors' series in opposition to the Dallas Mavericks, instead elevating his voice as he railed against gun violence in the wake of Tuesday's taking pictures.

"Within the final 10 days, we have had aged Black people killed in a supermarket in Buffalo, we've had Asian churchgoers killed in Southern California, now we've kids murdered at college," Kerr told reporters firstly of the press conference.

"When are we going to do something? I am drained. I'm so tired of getting up here and providing condolences to the devastated families which can be out there ... I'm tired of the moments of silence. Sufficient."
