Through the Uvalde shooting, an off-duty federal agent’s spouse texted him for assist. “I asked my barber if he had a gun,” he stated.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when each males got text messages about the taking pictures unfolding at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, last week. "There's an energetic shooter. Assist. Love you," Albarado's spouse Trisha mentioned in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade trainer on the faculty, and their daughter is a student there.

"I asked my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, informed CBS News on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony at the school earlier that morning and was off duty, with his weapon at dwelling.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, they usually rushed to the chaotic scene. Cops were already there, and Albarado began helping.

"Children are coming out the windows," he said.

With people fleeing to a funeral home across the street, Albarado mentioned he needed to get inside the college as quick as he might.

"I was appearing as a husband and a father," he mentioned.

His spouse let him know she made it to the funeral home, but she instructed him their daughter was locked in a faculty restroom.

"I didn't know what restroom," Albarado said.

He finally discovered his daughter was in a restroom positioned inside her classroom. Albarado met up with two officers close to the classroom.

"We have to get the children out of here," Albarado said he informed the officers. "… The shooter's over there. We have to get the youngsters out. That is our time."

The officers began opening classroom doorways, and Albarado said he guided folks to security.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, saw my daughter," Albarado stated. "Reduction. Big aid."

He hugged and kissed her, and soon she was heading to the varsity parking zone.

While Border Patrol brokers have been on the group that breached the classroom where the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I did not have my gear, and so it wouldn't have been a smart decision for me to get into the constructing," he said. "I did not have my vest. A shotgun's not a adequate protection."

During a press convention final week, the pinnacle of the Texas Department of Public Safety stated the varsity district's police chief didn't initially send officers into the classroom where the gunman was positioned because he thought it was now not an active-shooter scenario. The U.S. Justice Division is conducting a review of the police response.

For his part, Albarado mentioned he wasn't able to evaluate the response.

"I know my fellow officers," he stated, "and … to me, coronary heart of hearts, I imagine they have been doing the whole lot in their power they may do."
