An 8-year-old boy vacationing in South Carolina was fatally shot when a person capturing randomly at passing vehicles struck his household’s car, authorities mentioned Tuesday.

Quarius Naqua Dunham, a 3rd grader from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was fatally injured within the taking pictures Saturday near Florence, the Florence County Sheriff's Workplace stated.

Quarius’ father, who was driving the automobile, was struck within the leg, the discharge stated. The boy was shot in his neck and pronounced lifeless at an area hospital Monday, NBC Boston reported.

Charles Montgomery Allen, 40, was arrested on suspicion of homicide, attempted homicide and other crimes, the sheriff's office mentioned.

“Investigators allege that Allen fired a number of random rounds at passing automobiles,” the workplace stated. No motive has been decided.

In an announcement, Portsmouth Colleges Superintendent Steve Zadravec said Quarius — a 3rd grader — was vacationing with his household in South Carolina at the time of the shooting, in keeping with NBC Boston. 

“An occasion like this touches our group as a complete,” he said. “Our hearts are with the family as we help each other through this unbelievable tragedy.”

Portsmouth Mayor Deaglan McEachern instructed the station: "You go on trip to make reminiscences that last a lifetime together with your children, and for this tragedy to befall this household, I was simply sick to my stomach." 

It wasn't immediately clear whether or not Montgomery, who is being held at the Florence County Detention Center, has a lawyer to speak on his behalf.
